I am a glutton for punishment. The more work I have to do, the less time I give myself to do it. My big "plan" for today was to get up at 9 and get into town to get props for the Boyfriend Film. Of course, I slept until noon. If this program has taught me anything it's that the less you do, the less you remember how to do anything. It's like energy in motion or something we learned in sixth grade. Inertia. The Dublin Interntional Film Festival is a'happenin' this week, and in typical Dublin fashion, tix are way overpriced ($9 + $2 membership fee on each ticket), and the films that are showing are totally mainstream--"The Recruit," "The Hours," "25th Hour"--so, basically we are overpaying to be part of the festival atmosphere. Ha! And, somehow I have been persuaded to see "Rules of Attraction" with James "Hi, I'm a Golden Retriever!" Van der Beek and various hot young starlets who spell their names with "y" instead of proper vowels. Anywhoo, it looks like some cross between "Go," "Cruel Intentions" and "American Pie," so I'm sure I'll love it. Apparently the gaffer or somebody from Pulp Fiction wrote it. I have no idea if it was the gaffer, it's probably someone more important and middle-aged enough to be fed up with the industry to just go hog wild and pander to the youth generation milieu with a crafty and witty vengeance. Am I already that old that the site of college dorm movies makes me roll my eyes and clench my jaw? All I know is that the ad for it is a bunch of stuffed animals shown in various sexual positions. There's nothing like crass humor to get me into a movie seat! I mean, seeing a fuzzy floppy bunny get it from behind is pretty funny! Am I right? Okay, now I'm just being grumpy. I fully accept my movie viewing fate and am open to the full scope of Van der Beek's performance. St. Patrick's Day weekend is already humming to a start. I have seen several people with huge fuzzy "leprechaun" hats on already. Historically, I have terrible St. Patrick's Days, so this should be interesting. . .
