May is slowly turning into a semi-dramatic version of April. My (mother's) SUV got towed yesterday. I went to leave for work and found myself staring at an empty parking spot. It is a strange feeling to be looking for something BIG, like a Mercury Mountaineer, and to see nothing in its place. I think I handled it pretty calmy, however. I very calmly went back to my apartment and called the police department. Long story short, they (being the Richmod Police) towed my car--*they* claim I was parked in front of a driveway, which is a total lie. I did get to go to the towing company on the infamous "South Side" of Richmond. South Side (in comparison to My Richmond which is approximately 10 miles in diameter) looks like the wild west, complete with old mini-malls with crazy 1960's signs. If they ever need to re-shoot "The Wonder Years" I suggest the South Side. I especially liked that the tow place used to be a drive-in movie theater (the screen is still up) and looked exactly like the tow yard in Pulp Fiction. Except that it had a very scary watch tower-like building and the gates locked behind me. I also liked that they referred to my vehicle as "she." As in, "We have her. She's back in the second lot." I like thinking of my (mother's) vehicle as ship of which I am the captain. So, May is getting mediocre darn fast. The weather here, however, is gorgeous. The trees (and there are many in Virginia) are so green they are nearly technicolor. In fact, I find myself marvelling at how even with sunglasses on, the green is still blindingly green. I have a particular love for the colors gold and turqouise/sky blue together (like the wallpaper/paint of French royalty), and looking at the gold/green of the leaves against the sky out my window is like my own special color extravaganza. And that's about as romantic as I can get about May. Sick confession: Is anyone else (sickly) interested in watching the premiere of the Britney Spears "reality" show premiering on Fox (UPN?) next week. I am. There, I've said it. If Britney Spears life were an appetizer it would be: potato chips and miracle whip. If my life were an appetizer it would be: tortilla chips and guacomole. Or, blue cheese and anything. Or, pretzels and chocolate. It depends on the day.
