It is H-O-T here people, H-O-T. I went outside to make a phone call yesterday, it had just rained, and it felt like I was standing in the middle of a steam bath.

Luckily, it was not too H-O-T this weekend. I had the most Americana July 4th ever! (you may remember that last year I spent it alone in my new apartment, sick, and watching "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane") I went to Dogwood Dell, sat on a picnic blanket with assorted friends and Joya's family, ate fried chicken, drank beer and watched fireworks. It was really, really nice. No crazy mobs, no drunk teenagers, no sticky children (or at least none that I could see) and only moderately bad medleys of patriotic songs.

I also saw "War of the Worlds." I thought it was more funny than scary (well, not the first half hour), alot of it didn't make much sense, and tripod aliens with rayguns is just plain campy. I understand that it is an adaptation of a story written many moons ago, but I guess aliens that look like bugs just aren't scary anymore. The noises were scary. So was the idea of being obliterated by aliens. But most of it just smacked of regurgitated "Jurassic Park" scenes mixed with "Poltergeist." However, there were no clowns. Actually, a film where aliens were actually clowns would be terrifying (or was that the plot of "It"?)

In other news, we have an intern. She graduated from Princeton, so I feel a *little* guilty that the only chore we have for her involves three-hole punching grant reports. That *teeny* bit of guilt, however, disappears when I realize that she will probably have a more glamorous life than me soon enough. That's right, this is the hard knocks arts agency internship.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the television show "Alice" was a spin-off of the 1974 Scorcese pro-women's lib film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore?" I suppose I should have known that, but I didn't until I watched the film for the first time this weekend.

Oh, how I miss "Alice"! I didn't realize how much I watched that show until recently. Weird TV deja vu.
