Finally I have all new official grown-up furniture! Not that I had kiddie furniture before, I just didn't have the furniture I wanted. I had a hand me down from my cousin's ex-lover, the affectionately christened "Big Gay Table" (glass top, metal bottom--need I say more?) which I was using (grudgingly) as a desk/dining room table. And, I had books stacked neatly on the floor as opposed to a bookcase. But NOW I have a cool ladder bookcase and matching bistro table and chairs, thank you Target.com. It doesn't look too shabby. Now I just need a new rug, a new dresser, a desk and a new bedframe. Big Gay Table did not go without a fight. The leaded glass top weighs about 20lbs. and is unweildy in 90 degree humidity, so I nearly killed both myself and Aaron (who so kindly agreed to take in Big Gay Table) in the moving process. But, it is now a faint memory and its absence allows for a small dance floor like space in my living room. Otherwise, my weekend consisted of eating lots of ice cream and reading. Oh, and spending too much money at Nordstrom. Not that this is interesting to anyone, but my hair has been really dry lately, which is weird because it is so humid out, so I couldn't take it anymore and bought a $30 bottle of that Phyto-french brand hair stuff which is just like miracle serum for your head. I heart Nordstrom. They returned my shoes without a receipt, they took me directly to the hair product I needed and they act like real salespeople, not automotans. Speaking of automotans, I have had that godforsaken Jessica Simpson version of "These Boots. . ." in my head all day and I'm ready to bash my head into a wall. "Can I get a hell yeah?" How such a cool song could become such a piece of tushy-pop is beyond me. Was anyone else really sad to hear that Peter Jennings died? I was. When I lived in the IRE, I was so worn down by Sky News that when I saw a broadcast of ABC World News Tonight and heard the calming tone of PJ's voice I nearly broke down in tears of euphoria. For whatever geeky reason, US news and reporters (and yes, I know that he was Canadian) make me homesick like nobody's business. I think you just get used to their voices or something--it's like the voice of history while its happening or something. Not all U.S. news, mind you, just some reporters. And P. Jennings was one of those. When I used to want to be a journalist, way back in 1994, I always thought it was cool that he got to where he was with only a high school diploma. Okay, I will now get off of my news geek pulpit.
