I'm safely back from Ocracoke, Island, and it was all that I thought it would be--remote, beachy and relaxing. Now, I am fully back into the swing of things, I think. I cannot stop watching and reading about New Orleans and the whole thing just makes me so very sad on about 100 different levels. But I'm not going to pour a bunch of self-centered emotings onto a horrible situation. I will applaud amazon.com for allowing quick donations to the Red Cross. I've never experienced such an expedient internet transaction, so I'm glad that in the cyberworld things move efficiently.

What else? I finished "All the King's Men" and highly recommend it. I also rediscovered how much I miss reading and how relaxed and accomplished it makes me feel. Very few things in life accomplish both for me, except for shopping. Which isn't really relaxing, so I guess it doesn't count. Wow, I'm really grasping at straws here. I felt like I had a lot to say, but apparently I was wrong.

Oh! I had an insane dream earlier this week in which I went on a reality television show with Daryl called "American Family," in which we got to go live at the White House with W. and Laura. How insane is that? There were all of these news crews asking us what it felt like to live in the White House and how were we "treated differently" from the Bush Twins. Bizarre. Then, the dream continued and I became W's personal assistant, and I felt that I really didn't want the job, but at the same time I thought it was cool to get to work in the White House and then my home telephone got tapped. And that wasn't cool. I won't even get into the terrifying W. dream I had a few months ago. The images weren't exactly terrifying, but at the time it was one of the most disturbing dreams I've ever had.

Another terrifying image: a really sloppy woman who nearly ran me over yesterday in her Audi ROCKING OUT to Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" song. She was singing along like a maniac. Or whatever the name of that song is where he says "birds go by at the speed of sound to show us that they really care" or whatever the hell he is saying. Have I ever expressed how much Chris Martin annoys me? And how vacuus their lyrics have become? And how he is so pompous with his politics. Well, now you know. And how I can't take political rants seriously from someone who is a millionaire and gets to eat $200 sushi dinners at Nobu every night with Gwyneth Paltrow. It is similar to the way I feel about Dave Matthews, though I can see why people like Dave Matthews. And as far as I know, Dave Matthews does not eat $200 sushi dinners--he just allows his bus driver to dump human waste on passing boaters. Rock 'n' Roll!!!

Did I imagine this or is there a televsion show with Denise Richards this fall set in Silver Lake? Nope, I was right: http://www.upn.com/shows/sex_love_secrets/
"Set in the small, hip neighborhood of Silver Lake, on the outskirts of Hollywood, this fresh, edgy, new drama explores the intimate and often complex relationships of a tight-knit group of friends finding out who they are and what they want in life."

Wow. I'm going to have to warn the DeGreene's--who knew my friends were so hip? This is great--this marks the first time an area in which my friends actually live will be the setting for fake drama! Yay!

And, let us not forget September 8--the RETURN OF THE OC! That's right, I have so little to look forward to, that this makes my week. This summer I have found myself adrift--many nights alone eating popcorn watching re-runs and, shameful as it might be, sinking to new "How do rich California teenagers live?" lows by watching the ridicluos "Laguna Beach" and "Sweet Sixteen" on MTV. Confused, alone, wondering: What will happen to Coop now that she killed Ryan's brother? Will Seth and Summer be able to take their emotionally autistic relationship to new highs? Is Summer pregnant or was she just eating a lot? Whattup with Kiki and the drinking? After Caleb's death will Julie Cooper now seek her revenge on OC society? And, more importantly, what soundtrack will highlight their highs and lows?

Stay tuned. . .

OMG. They have the First Season of "America's Next Top Model" on DVD. Television shows on DVD is the best thing since, since, I don't know, the internet. There, I've said it.
