Women like to read something intelligent?

Wow—who knew that women in their 20s wanted to read something that wasn’t all about clothes, hair, make-up and having orgasms. Sheesh. Has it taken LONG enough for magazine publishers to figure this out? So aggravating. I was actually just thinking about that the other day when I was at Target buying a copy of Esquire and I looked at all of the magazines and all the “women’s” magazines were just so boring and samey that I couldn’t even bother to see what was beyond the cover. I mean, why is that Esquire should be more appealing to me in content, considering it has a semi-naked woman on the cover wearing a satin bow-thong? I over-looked the SBT and kind of felt guilty about buying it, but what else could I do? (Not to mention they it was the Dubious Achievement Awards Issue which makes me laugh so hard I can’t breathe).

The only other magazines that appealed to me were the following:
1. Home improvement mags—interesting, but I don’t have a “house.”
2. InStyle--would just make me angry at celebrities
3. Town & Country--would just make me mad at the insanely wealthy.
4. Architectural Digest—would make me sad about my career path
5. CosmoMademoiselleSelf-what’s the point?
So, I tucked the Esquire under my arm and went about my day. But not without thinking, why are there no magazines geared toward women who think about other things then hair/clothes/make-up/men? Not that there’s anything wrong with those 4 categories, but really, this has got to stop.

I suppose I can eradicate the above treatise on what women want to read by saying that I got to watch an episode of “Project Runway” last night (we have no cable) and I so miss and love it. I love that Jay won. I love that Michael Kors is totally snarky and witty. I love that it doesn’t matter that Heidi Klum is as engaging as a lamp post with a pretty face. I love that one contestant’s “inspiration” was dirty water in a gutter. But, what I love most of all is the JUDGING (maybe this is something left-over from being teased in junior high? And, of course, getting to yell at the television). I mean, what was up with Santino’s “graffiti-inspired” Fashion Barbie scarfy dress thing? It was a total mess—not to mention the halter was sewed on all wonky. I loved Daniel V’s orchid top (not that I would ever wear it) and Chloe’s dress was wonderfully detailed and seemingly wearable. I could handle Andrae’s dirt/grime seen-it-a-million-times-at-the-awards-shows lots of complicated straps satin dress, but Nick’s Paris Hilton inspiration MUST END NOW.
I’m really speechless that any supposed student of fashion would cite her in any way whatsoever. I thought it was a silent agreement of anyone with eyeballs that her taste is like a Frederick’s of Hollywood train wreck. That red dress of Zulema’s creation was an absolute atrocity—total Ice Capades. I mean, she went to Parson’s for chrissake, don’t they teach you how to stitch a straight seam on your first day? I loathe deconstructed clothes and am quite happy that the whole ragged hem look is OVER. Overall, I think the competition is basically between Chloe, Daniel V. and Andrae—they have the most inspired ideas and craftsmanship to back it up.

In other news, I need someone to please assure me that I hear wrong and that Lindsay Lohan is NOT doing a Chanel campaign. Why, Kaiser Karl, why?
